GM core/used airbag disposal in Georgia

I wanted to ask if any of the managers may be from Georgia and have had any issues with disposing of their old airbags. One of the other parts manager friend of mine was blowing his old airbags and the local police dept came over and forced him to stop. They told him that they would send the code enforcement officer over to go over the reasoning with him. The code enforcement told my friend and even showed him a state "Code" that prohibits this as the unspent airbag is considered hazardous waste. They told him that he must dispose of the airbags through an approved disposal company and keep the records like you would with waste oil. After contacting GM, they told the guy that they didn't offer any service to pick up the airbags and that he must follow his state EPD regulations. He located a couple of companies that offered this service and was quoted at $95.00 per airbag to remove them! I am at a loss for words to even fathom the expense that this will put on him and pretty much any dealer in our state that is faced with this deal. Any thoughts? Thanks

You need to either get enough to put on a pallet to return to Takata or call Takata for individual shipping labels if you only have a few.

Takata: 1-877-523-9118
Takata Shipping: 1-210-250-5000
