Does GM mandate at all that we have to have a key cutting machine onsite? I am getting conflicting stories after wanting to get rid of our leased unit.

I don't have a laser cutter, But my Chevy store does so I guess thats how we get around not having one. But I will admit that it's a bit inconvenient having to cross the highway every time we need a key cut.

We do not have a laser cutter here yet. But since it takes 4-6 business days to get a laser cut key ordered from GM now I may be able to convince my owner.

Otherwise 2 local Chevy dealers cut them for us.

We do have one its a BDLaser+ machine that we do lease. We also charge 15.00 per cut for every side laser key that we have to cut . We recoup our investment PLUS every single month.

I don't think that GM mandates a key machine be onsite as part of the tool program. We did purchase the Laser Xtreme-s for about 9G about 3 years ago. We charge $25.00 to cut the side milled keys. Within 1.5 years we had paid for the machine, now it's just profit for the department.

It has had some setup issues, but it has been a pretty reliable machine. The customer service is terrible, they talk to you like you should be the one writing the program for the machine.
We are still waiting on 2019 code updates from them.

We cut maybe one a key a month and the lease is 200 bucks. Just isnt worth it with a chevy dealer down the street.

Don't have or want one. Order precut from GM. It's bad enough we cut 3-5 of the old style daily. I cannot believe how many people lose keys.

We order them pre-cut from GM. If there is an emergency situation, we refer the customer to the nearest dealer with a machine or a locksmith.

They may not mandate but they sure are pushing us towards buying one. What used to be overnight is now a week. Don't know if everyone is aware of the key code policy. We had a consultant that made us aware of a bulletin I missed. Received key codes must now be held for 2 years under locked protection with all info and GMIN of who submitted. Sales department key requests must be logged and kept. We usually see a bump in requests from drunks in the holiday season. Probably be a part of an audit process. Sure is a big change from the days of the Cobalt recall.
