I am a new GM parts manager with a million questions. Will GM charge me any extra to upgrade my Rim backorders to cso/vip?

only way you will ever get those parts is to upgrade them. And, no, they won't charge you if you upgrade them.

in a way you are charged because you lose the discount for purchasing on RIM as a DRO order.

To the best of your knowledge, is the part still protected as a RIM part if you upgrade to CSO??

Unless you need it like right now, you better off waiting.

Incorrect...if the order starts as a DRO on RIM and gets upgraded, it retains RIM protection. I have contacted Adam at the RIM help desk in the past on this issue and he assured me that parts retain protection if upgraded to CSO. I even saved his e-mail in case something comes up in the future (which never has).
