I struggle with the stocking and storage of our tires. I'm not sure if I should do it by size, type, GM part #.
I just can't think of a really good way to do it with our setup, so I though that I would ask some experts how they do it?

We have 5 segments of free-standing tire racks. Tires are organized by size on the racks; with special orders organized in stacks on the floor by customer name. We are fortunate to have space available to keep up with the spring and fall demands. In the DMS, they are by GM part number, with the size as the description.

I had a talk with our service manager a few years ago. Its was simple conversation really . They were tired of waiting for tire vendors to deliver tires so i asked . If i stock them will you sell them ?? We all had an agreement and i put 150 tires in stock from the top selling lists on the GM Tire portal . We sell on average about 100-120 tires a month . Was definitely worth the investment and space usage .

This is not really about storage of tires but more about ease of lookup. We are using CDK or as I call it IDK. (when my coworkers ask my why something doesn't work right, I jusk say IDK) One job that I do like is SDL. Not Service daly log, but Set Up Dealer Parts List. With this I use the tire size as a #, no - or no R just 2657017 for example. Then I am able to enter the part #, my description and a breif note on each line. The quantity is updated real time. I just need to make sure to add new tires to the list and delete the old ones from time to time.

Sounds like CDK is a nightmare im on R&R so all my tires are in one source by part # , and size in the description as stated above i print out a tire sheet for the counter guys so they just go to that to see what we have in stock i update that list when my tire guy adds or deletes tires

Exact same thing we do here. It's worked great for us for years now.

We carry about 700 tires, over $100K worth. All our are on heavy tire racks "narrow pallet rack". They are on shelf by brand and size. I have them in DMS "R&R" in one source, one Bin and change the Group Number to the letter abbreviation that's on the packing list per brand. Makes finding tires much easier and you can run your inventory pad to break on group first.

In that case, download the excel chart, to your desktop, from Global Connect GM Tire Central. It is able to filter by size, brand, part number, article number, etc. (Then you can put it all back to normal upon exit of the chart.) Global Connect> GM Tire Central> Launch> LIBRARY tab drop down> Tire Pricing Information> "Month" 2020 Tire Pricing (Excel)> Download to Desktop. I do this every month and it is a handy little chart!

I'm more or less doing the same thing Glenn does, I'm using hte manufacturer's abbreviations as group file names; at first, we issued an arbitrary number to all of our products, but it turned out to be a logistical nightmare as even we would often mess up the manufacturer's denominations with our own ...
