That was me that penned the story years ago.
That was a true story that happened probably sometime between 1978-1980.

We had the same issue at our dealership and a few years ago and we stopped giving out part numbers, with a few exceptions for good customers or someone broke down on the side of the road and we don't have the parts. Our DMS is CDK and we put everything on a quote, so even before the customer asks for the part numbers we tell them, "I have all of your information on a quote, I can give you the quote number so when you call back all the information will be saved." If they ask for the part numbers we tell them it is company policy to not give them out. At first customers bitched and complained, but now most don't seem to mind. I like the fan blade story, I'll share that with my guys.
