Good mroning as I just received a warranty call back request for an AC condenser I was wondering if that should be shipped back hazmat or not as I have conflicting information as i found this in the 2013 Dot Hazardous materials shipping guide from KPA dated 2013 though everything in GM world says it isn't hazardous as did someone at our Chevy dealership thanks

Wrap the part in enough absorbent to soak up any residual liquid, place the wrapped part in a plastic bag, place the plastic bag in a 4G fiberboard box with enough absorbent to prevent movement. Place the marking (Dangerous goods in apparatus, (UN3363) and the Hazard Class 9 label on the outside of the package.

I never would have thought of an AC Condenser as a HAZMAT part. But I see it for myself in the KPA DOT Hazardous Materials Shipping Guide.

Not even worth asking why GM is calling back an AC Condenser.

Correct me if I am wrong, but I thought if an item requested back was hazardous it would be marked hazardous on the return request form somewhere.

I have had this discussion with my DMA a few times. GM should be telling us if something is considered to be Hazardous or not. I know I am asking a lot. LOL

plus that means anyone sending back a condenser would have to purchase a special 'hazmat compliant' 4G fiberboard box.

I am not at work now, but I have a list of labor ops that indicate the parts as hazmat. It was provided by an ‘Old School’ gentleman at the WPC. I got it because I called and bitched about the difficulties experienced when these requests are made. We actually got debited for returning a ‘non-hazardous’ as hazardous. I will check tomorrow and reply.

I am not stating that this is all encompassing. I do believe it is a good point of reference.
I do know that even if the labor op is not on this list, due to the requirement to return all associated parts, you have to review any pertinent parts, like fuel pipes, that would otherwise render the return hazardous.
I contacted the WPC in regards to a labor op that was not designated as hazardous, but one of the associated parts, a fuel pipe would have created the need for hazmat shipping.
I returned the parts as hazmat and had no issues.
