GM warranty parts return

GM warranty parts return

Postby 30+years » Tue Oct 20, 2020 5:57 pm

Good Afternoon All.

My question is who is suppose to be responsible for checking the Global Warranty site to see if any parts are being requested back to GM.

We just hired a firm and they said that generally it's the parts managers duty.

If I don't have enough things going on now they seem to think I need to babysit that site also. Maybe they want to take over the LPO's.

Just asking who handles that duty in other dealerships.

Thanks

I (a counterman, with Manager/Asst Manager knowledge and ability, but no title), years ago shared it with the PM, and it eventually just fell to me alone. Currently, it's up to our Warranty Admin, who is also a counterman.

I (Parts Manager) check it daily. Our warranty clerk also checks it but doesn't do anything in terms of getting the part shipped back.

I (Parts manger) check this every morning just part of the morning routine i check that, answer backs, and print my invoices takes about four minutes not a big deal in my opinion because you know who they will come down on when the claim gets charged back

Our Warranty Clerk takes care of it here, and parts is responsible for shipping it back.

As Parts Manager at my last dealership, I pulled the paid warranty reports in GlobalConnect (for my own benefit), made the returns and scrapped the parts accordingly. This way the clock does not run out on the return deadline. The Policy & Procedures manual showed it to be the responsibility of the Parts Department to retain the defective warranty part. (see page 124, section 7.2 - Disposition of Defective Material, updated 3/16/20)
