Per the cap on the vehicle, it takes 0w-40 for the 6.2L motor. Our oil distributor says they don't carry that, and I have no GM # for it. When I look at SI or the catalog, it says it takes Mobil1 0w-40 (19370233). The only problem here is on the warranty oil changes our service department ends up having to eat alot of money because they don't pay for Mobil products. What are all of you using for these situations? Thanks in advance...

We use Mobil 0W40 per SI. We use the GM stuff, either from oil distributor or Kem Krest - I would have to ask PM where he gets it from. It is EXPENSIVE.

We use part #19370233. Mobil 1, case of 6.

Thanks for you responses. Still though, your service manager hasn't complained how much they have to write off because of GM only covering a much, much lower $ amount reimbursement?

We use 19370233 also and we get it from our oil distributors. It's marked Mobil one 0w40 ESP formula.

Dont use the 0w40 European formula that the parts stores have. It is different stuff.

WOW, this "boutique" motor oil situation is really getting out of hand.

First, it was transmissions, then coolants, then axles, transfer cases, and brakes, now motor oil.

My guess is that the Kwik Lubes, Wal Marts and most DIY customers won't know the difference, and sell whatever they have that's close.

Five years from now, how will those Camaros be holding up?

Probably better than the Toyotas that call for 0W16 oil....

Per SI it also says this:

"If 0W-40 dexos2 oil is not available, SAE 5W-30 dexos1 full synthetic engine oil may be used for street use."

Needless to say I found that excerpt pretty quickly when the service manager came to me and told me I would have to do all Camaro oil changes essentially at cost. So we've put in 5W30 Dexos1 in all 6.2L Camaros since.
