Do you guys have a company that you use to purchase obsolescent inventory that is non-returnable?

Back when I had some pretty high obsolescence numbers, I used the cash discovery program (CDK, ADP...can't remember) and over the course of about a year I got it whittled down. At the time, you got paid 50 cents on the dollar, paid a fee for each transaction (7 or 10%...again, can't remember) and you were responsible for shipping. Overall the program worked as it was supposed to. Could I have made more money by taking another avenue? Possibly, but it would have taken more work on my end to do so. Sorry for not remembering all of the specifics, but I've had a few drinks since then.

There is a company Dealermine that works as a broker. They list your inventory and match you with buyers. I worked at a place that used them 15 years ago. Similar to the way the above post worked.

Perhaps, try what I do. I pad the cost of oil .25/qt. Mind you, I adjust the price of oil to match the pad. Combine that with having to round up when billing on Dealertrack,
it gives me approx 1500.00/month to use as gross or for aged inventory.

Without me making the call, is this only GM parts they accept, and what percent of cost will they generally give?

I do something similar with oil, although I don't pad any costs. I do a monthly inventory of the oil, reconcile it, always get an overage, and take that overage at that time.

That is my method of getting rid of any stubborn parts as well.

From the looks of their web page, v parts inc dot com, it appears as if they accept many part types. I was managing a GM-Chrysler dealership many years ago, and we had just began to speak dollars when our owner decided to lock the doors.

I have used both Dealermine and PartsBrokerDirect both who usually find buyers for parts paying .50 cents on the dollar and they do work if you have some obsolescence that is attractive to them and other buyers, I find they really pick and choose what offers they make. If you have a large obsolescence problem then I would contact Surplus Parts Service from Needville Tx and talk with Thomas there. He does an outstanding job looking at your obsolescence and making an offer to buy up a 'lot" of parts numbers and is less pick and choose that the otehr two I mentioned. He will not offer as much but if you need to dump a lot of parts in a hurry, it may be an option for you. surpluspartsservice dot com
