Well I think its safe to say there is something coming down the pipes , maybe bulletin , recall , who knows but …

New number change 12716401 -> 12740076 dealer cost cut in half and core goes from 2500.00 - > 7000.00 BACKORDER
Part number 12690558 has a core changes to 7000.00 BACKORDER
Part number 19434266 has a price increase and a core charge of 5000.00 BACKORDER

What are we doing here , seriously vehicles down all over , yet power train dealers seem to have no problem getting this stuff . Part number 19434266 SPAC claims thousands of back orders

i have 4 units down here right now on the 1276401 engines... have 2 of the 6401's for them, have one of the 12740076 here also and one coming that shows shipped... the last one gm called me about it since it had 3000 miles on it.. some are rod bearing locking up the engine... some have lost a thrust bearing and breaking the block.. we have completed 2 also.. most of these did not make it to the first oil change. he did not seem to realize these motors were even a problem...

That's because it is more cost effective to ship a truckload of say 20 engines to a powertrain dealer then splitting those same 20 engines across 20 different dealers that have vehicles down. GM is concerned about selling the parts fast not necessarily who "needs" them. Engines and collision parts are a perfect example of this. Also as far as these engines go could have been to cut down on people buying/flipping cores that spun a bearing. Less likely but who knows!
