that is a tough one... we are a small gm dealer... there is me and one other guy.. no stocker, no delivery people..

last year we averaged 230k in sales and 96k in gross.. plus we handle probably 40k in lpo's and back up our service cashier, so we need atleast one more person.. some days we never stop... some days we never start... so who knows.. the numbers over a year says we need more help..

i think the gm number used to be around 40k in sales per counter.. i think the last i heard it was around 70k per counter guy.. at some point in that the manager gets taken out of the count..

i also remember them looking at a piece count as part of the overall number..

This is what I was going to put on here, can't locate anything more recent.

Thanks for the info. I always heard that 70k+ a month is an avg measurement. They was many years ago too.
The guide that PartsPlant81 gave, where did you get that info? Very interesting information.

It's from an NADA Dealership Productivity Guide
The person that does our physical inventory gave it to us in his report.
The top right says 2022 Formulas. Definitions. Guides.

Not sure if you can find it online I took a quick look and couldn't find anything.

I just googled "NADA Dealership Productivity Guide" and the one for 2023 shows up. It says 2023 Formulas Definitions Guides,3 page PDF and the parts stuff is on page 3.

It says 60k sales, 18, gross profit

That one says "Truck Dealers", which is helpful. The one for, what may be more generic, "Automobile Dealers" has a breakdown for Domestic, Import (non luxury), and Import (luxury) is on slideguide dot nada dot org/NADASlideGuide dot pdf.

Parts Personnel
Parts Sales per Parts Employee
Domestic ....................................................................................$45,000+
Import Non-Luxury .....................................................................$50,000+
Import Luxury .............................................................................$63,000+
(excessive staff reductions cause artificially high performance)
Parts Gross per Parts Employee
Domestic ....................................................................................$15,000+
Import Non-Luxury .....................................................................$20,000+
Import Luxury .............................................................................$22,000+
(OEM “unit replacement” increases sales, reduces gross)
Parts-to-Labor Ratio ...................................................................................... 1:1
(not a guide due to regional nature of labor rates)
