Tire warranty

Tire warranty

How do you handle tire warranties outside of the normal GM warranty. It really chaps my arse with all the bullshit filing a tire warranty as it usually gets dropped in my lap as if I have the time to waste filling out the online form, calling Michelin to make sure I am doing this correctly, they have no clue and tell me to call our Michelin distributer. Call them and get crickets. Eventually it goes through. The rep at GM tire sent me a cheat sheet, it really helped out, I could scan it if someone wants a copy.
Tire has a cost of $200. Michelin agrees to pay 30%, the customer pays 70% plus tax, mount/balance etc. Tire ends up billed on the RO at cost, customer pays $140.00 plus the other fees, claim is filed, we wait for our credit from GM for the full amount of cost for the tire. It gets journaled over in accounting and the RO is closed out.

Is there a better way? I would rather bill the tire at normal retail, customer pays their share and the rest is couponed off but getting the service department to understand this

Luckily, I have a Rep from our tire distributor that handles these. Unfortunately, I have to make the decision on when something is warrantable. Once I do, I take measurements and figure the balance owed by the customer. We perform the Job and document everything on the job card. Once it's complete, I call him and he shows up and does everything directly with the manufacturer on his phone. Usually, depending on manufacturer, everything gets paid within about a week or so. :D

I also have an excellent rep that comes by, sometimes once a month or will actually return telephone calls, helps with our tire stocking guide, etc. Unfortunately he does not handle Michelin.
