My ownership group is asking me whether or not I have to use snap on for our catalog.

I am work for a multiline dealer, Kia and GM, both on snap-on.

Is there another option, and if so what are the benefits/drawbacks?

Thanks in advance.

frankly I know it is expensive and I still would prefer to pay for it over some knock off half-baked catalog. I don't think they know what the pain they are asking for even if we could find someone to switch to.

i agree... i started in gm when we still had books only. then microfiche (horrible) the new catalog is so much easier to use. i remember when bell and howell (before snap on) charged extra for vin filtering.. some things i dont like. like charging extra for a link to oe connection, but it is soooo much better than before

snap on is your only option for GM, Microcat does offer catalogs for most other lines though

Is your dealership leasing the workstations as well as purchasing the licenses for each catalog? One dealer I worked for only purchased refurbished workstations and then purchased the Snap-On licenses separately for each one. He felt this saved money. The dealer I am with now, gets both the workstations and licenses from Snap-On.

Back in the CDK days, we had our printers supported by Snap On in addition to the workstations and licenses. One printer would give me grief on a monthly basis. Had their tech support on the phone for two hours one morning trying to get one working. He asked what that noise was, I responded it was my fist making contact with the printer. He promptly sent out a replacement.
