Help! No Box For A GM Core

Help! No Box For A GM Core

Postby partsmandean » Thu Jun 05, 2003 9:27 am

I have a $100 steering gear core with no original box to ship it back in. Anybody out there ever been able to sidestep the "No Box" rule, and if so, who did you contact to get help in doing so? Humorous sidenote (sort of): Elderly tech, couple months shy of retirement, did this job and when asked where the box was for the core (which we had to hunt down in the first place!), replied that he couldn't be held responsible for cardboard boxes!! Actually, he had a point as I instruct my counter people to never let a part, that has a core value, go out of the parts dept in the original container. That way things like this don't happen, plus an empty container is a dead giveaway that a core has not been turned back in yet!!

Yep, that's the way we do it too. Couple of shelves where we keep the empty boxes. We mark them with white tape; RO number, date and tech name. Makes it easy to have the service manager(note) round them up at the end of the day if techs don;t return them!

no, haven't found a way around the no box rule. i did have a Delco rep tell me once that he would give me credit on a couple of ecm cores without boxes, he took the cores but never did issue credit ...
we have a number of mismatched cores and core boxes. i'll make a list, if anyone has a match we could help each other out.
cores without boxes: 9361735,9378702,9380717,12209614,(2)16211539,16229684,16236757,24218255
boxes without cores:
(5)16217058
believe me, the parts dept didn't lose on any of these, i just hate to throw them out without trying this first.
got a match? call me, Mark @ 978-458-0030
