GM parts rec'd out of box, non-returnable

Postby Hank D » Mon Oct 02, 2000 10:15 pm

We are receiving several parts a week that have no box or package, just a wire tie and a tag. These are not returnable because they are not in the original box or package. The area parts rep. tells us that we have to call the shipping PDC the day of receipt and file with them for each individual part. With that file number, the part is then returnable without the package that it should have come in but didn't. That is if it hasn't been damaged.

Anyone else having this problem?

Age old Problem!! Most of the material out of Lansing and/or Flint is shipped like this. I got a engine cradle yesterday that was shipped raw! In these cases, make sure that that tag that is wire-tied to the part STAYS on the part. If you do need to return the part, you can state that is the way you recieved it. I had a few problems when the Charlotte warehouse went live with returns, but after a few telephone conversations with plant personel, I started getting credits as I should.

There is a info bulletin that addresses this question at least to some degree from GM. I noticed it today when I was getting rid of some old paperwork. I beleive it's in the 2000 info bulletins, without having it right in front of me.

When you apply for returns on a regular MRP, you are SUPPOSED to see a '+' sign in the bin location of the MRP return tag indicating that the part came from one of these plants. I haven't had the chance to look for such an indicator, but will the next time we do an MRP.

At least that's the understanding I can see as of late.
