Interested in what or what does not get charged to your department expenses.
yearly cost of parts inventory
parts invoices
electronic parts catalog subscribtion fee
office supplies -fax paper,toner,report paper
pens,etc...
any new-used car advertising 'because parts hours are listed"
service rentals "split?"
uniforms
or any other odd things

There's 3 ways to look at it.
1-percentage of sq footage is one, for some rent and utility expense,
2-what percent of sales volume for supplies and miscellaneous.
3-advertising-rentals-who derives what portion of the benefits. what percent of GP is generated from service repair orders,
eg 150,000 service gross vs 50,000 parts gross-on repair orders not retail & wholesale. perhaps you should pay 25% of rentals. Hours listed in a sales ad? 5-10% max of ad. if anything.

Rent: per square footage

Invoices: parts dept

Office supplies: equal split between all dept's

Rentals: parts pays only if they are responsible for a problem

Advertsing: parts pays for they're own, period. However, in our store, service uses all the GM co-op funds. Just an agreement we worked out in lieu of some other concessions.

Annual inventory: parts dept

Parts Catalogs/subscriptions: parts dept
