GM Ship Direct Returns

Postby Louis » Mon May 20, 2002 5:26 pm

I just wanted to let you GM guys know something about the new Ship Direct Returns Program (IB#02-142). I recently returned a few items under this new program. The bulletin states "Do not pre-pay freight. After receipt and processing of the return, you will be charged freight for the portion of the return that is your responsibility."
I followed these instructions and used the third party billing to bill Schnieder Logistics on my UPS shipper software. The cost to Schneider for the UPS charges was $6.53. Today I received a credit from GM for the parts that I had returned and was charged $32.50 for freight that cost them $6.53! I made several phone calls until I finally reached someone in-the-know about this and was told that $32.50 was the "minimum charge" for freight charges. I then asked why we couldn't pre-pay the freight and save the dealership some money. That question resulted in silence and I have yet to receive an answer. Now they are even trying to make money on the shipping!

So the next time you want to return something under this program make sure you have enough items to make the "minimum freight charge".

OUCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That smarts... Thanks for the heads up. I just talked with a Acura Parts manager who had a good one come up.

He ordered two hood props for a customer. The props (74145-S3M-A00 is the part number if you are wondering) were at the facing depot in the Bay Area. They were shipped UPS as per their daily order criteria, but alas they were "Hazardous" materials. Thus, he received an extra bill for shipping to the tune of $31.00 for two shock props that had a dealer net of $13.53 each. And, he had to discount them 25% to a body shop....

No where, either in the part number information on the Master Tape or on the DCS system was this part marked as a harardous part to alert him. SURPRISE, SURPRISE, SURPRISE!!!!!

ISN'T IT GREAT HOW THE MANUFACTURERS GET THESE GREAT DISCOUNTS ON SHIPPING BUT SOMEHOW THEY JUST DON'T SEEM TO PASS THOSE SAVINGS ON TO "US". AREN'T WE THE CUSTOMER? AREN'T WE SUPPOSED TO GET THE "RIGHT" PRICE THE "RIGHT" TIME AND THE "RIGHT" SERVICE?
I WONDER.. I WONDER...

Wow I dont feel too badly now that I always bang GM for the maximum allowance on every and all parts returned under warranty. I once had 3 parts requested from the same large RO and hit them for .9 lol.
It would seem to me unless there was a clear and easily understandable posting of all charges for an order returned GM really owes you a refund but try getting it.
