What is the life expectancy for GM Rapid 2000?
Are their any non-DMS suppliers of software to access RAPID 2000?

Prouser,
With GM's Epic system coming out later this year I don't expect that Rapid has a real long life span left.
I personally haven't found any non-dms software, I do know a few years back R&R had a PC based setup, also EDS had a windows based Program, I believe it was called ICS, that used to come on the old techline CDs. It was just a very basic program though.

Gerry,
What is EPIC? I've thought it was an electronic catalog for AcDelco WD's?

Prouser:

DPC Systems, 6321 Southwest Blvd, Fort Worth, TX 76132 817-731-4060

The are an independent supplier of Rapids 2000 systems. Rapids is a very old system and although I have no idea of it's lifespan I doubt if it is very long.

A good person to ask this question to is Spencer Hondros - GM Dealer and GM Dealer IT Committee Chairman (for 7 years). Spencer can be reached at Villa Marin Pontiac, Buick, Cadillac, GMC on Staten Island, NY at (718) 351-3300.

You should be able to get Rapid with a R+R supplied 2400 communications processor (modem), which can be tied in to your PC. DPC would be another option.

Prouser,
The following is from the April 2002 fixed ops boad meeting:
Duane Miller, general director, GM Parts Sales, began by presenting information on GM EPIC and explained that Electronic Bulletins, the Intent to Discontinue Report, Supersession Report and the SPRINT list will be the first applications available through GM EPIC by June 2002. The
availability of pricing information is expected by 3rd Quarter 2002.

This makes me believe he is talking about the future replacement of Rapid.

Thanks,
Gerry
