Ford's numbering system is a lot easier than GM. The group number is part of the part number.

In my book FORD is easlier. Have done both. Running GM store now. In my case; returns were easier, accessoies, warranty parts keeping and returns, rebuilts, wholesale comp, just was better. The avabilty of parts was about the same. Just my 2 cents

Done both as well. Been with Ford for the last 16 years. Answer your question? As far as the catalog and such, don't sweat it...parts is parts. If you're up on your game and up to the challenge, won't be a problem.

watch your obsolesence. with ford's low return allowance, you can get buried easily -- espeically if you're a wholesaler and/or you don't have tight special order controls in your shop. their depot fill rates are average. support staff and tools are fairly good. their VIN decoder on the EPC sucks, so be careful and use the HVBOM feature online. their core return system is the best/easiest i've seen. and the DCS system can be learned fairly fast.

The Ford store i am moving to has historicaly had a problem with inventory. shortages and obso. i am being pressured to do an inventory as soon as possible(which i agree with) i know the last inventory was 2 years ago. i need input from everyone as to how best prepare, the inventory is about 120,000 and is fairly well organized. right now it has been being run by a counterman and an absentee manager ( yeah i know WHAT?)i have worked ford parts before but only as a sideline so i need help , both with the managing and with the counter end

first thing make it known up front that the first inventory is on the dealer you didn't create the mess so yo dont get blammed, second if its in good shape as far as neatness do ibin checks on the whole inventory so you know everything is in its proper place i wouldn't change any qoh counts because you want a true cont on whats there,
