GM's multi-line RSG

GM's multi-line RSG

Regarding GM's new multi-line RSG requirements and their tendency to inflate obsolescence, here's a note we received from a manager on the west coast:

One current number on our combined RSG (Buick/GMC) is #15030115 - Brake pads group 5.017.

The ADP tape shows 82-87 OC which leads me to believe that the part is for S - T models, but I can't find it in the ADP - APC. I called two local dealers who use the R & R/Bell & Howell catalogs, but they couldn't find it either.

Then I called Partech and was told that this number is for "field fix" only and should not be cataloged (what's that mean?).

So why is it on the RSG in the first place? Where do they come up with this stuff?

Our PDC is Portland #019. In February, 1999 they sold 39 of these. Not exactly a fast mover. I have to think that those purchases were made solely to meet the RSG.
