GM Parts Availability from PDC's

Canadian PDC's are in the midst of an awful supply situation, and we are told it is worse in the US. Have you been told anything about when the days of supply matix for PDC's will be turned up again?

Our information in Canada is that this problem started in November, got worse in December, and then they reacted by cutting off all PDC referrals except for the CSO3 Order type. US dealers have been in this situation for 7 weeks???

Canadian GM staff are apologizing, but also letting us know that this situation may last another 60 days before PDC stocks are 'rebalanced' [whatever that means to GM]. Tracking things from here we have seen no improvement whatsoever. Any thoughts??

This is a terrible problem. At our GM stores it is now common for 30 to 40% of our normal daily orders to go on backorder status instead of being referred.

With little to do I decided to look at the OLDEST postings on Dealersedge. This forum post was created more than 21 YEARS AGO, and we are still dealing with the same thing.

Back then - no RIM, same problem ----- no PASE, same problem, etc. etc.

Seems the programs change and society creates new issues (strikes, viruses) but the problems remain. Will GM ever be able to fix this availability problem? Understanding certain current issues are out of their control.

What will you be dealing with in 21 years --- I will likely be dead by then.

But just remember the customer is at the center of everything they do. Gotta Love that great GM Feeling.

Actually, back in the 70's and 80's and into the 90's parts availability from your facing PDC was pretty good, the reason being IMO is that was when the General MANUFACTORED their own parts. Now, other than assembling the vehicles, all the parts are made by the various vendors they have contracted to make them to their specifications. Any little glitch can disrupt the supply chain.

At one time we had a warehouse here in Louisville. Life was easier to get parts back then. Hello, will call.

As recently as the '90s, GM & Chrysler had once or twice per week deliveries of manually generated stock orders! Now, Parts Managers are busy hoop jumping and reimbursement tracking. Oh, the good ol' days.
