stocking parts

recently read articles about "sbm"
i believe in "sbm", width not depth, model year in//out.
in my opinion there is no sense in stocking trim/cosmetics parts that customers are willing to wait for or MAY NOT even buy anyways, even if i'm selling enough of them. why tie my my dealers money with these items when i can stock reman parts to compete with aftermarket stores, car down items (especially for csi customers), and promo/captive parts.
i also feel david s and chuch hartle are correct in high inventory for slow moving items (captive) and low inventory for fast moving items (promo). model year in(captive)//model year out(promo) will play a big role in days-of-supply for the various sources.
DON'T make your inventory over complicated and un-workable. REMEMBER, there will never be a perfect formula for stocking parts, the best we can do as parts managers is to watch your management reports, take care of your service shop, and pay attention to what happens at the parts counter.
