Manufacturer Return Allowance and Discounts

Manufacturer Return Allowance and Discounts

Postby chartle » Thu Jan 13, 2005 10:59 am

I am looking for some help from you all for an article. I have had several inquiries to compare stock order discounts, return allowance, and special order return policies for the manufacturers. I wrote an article on this a couple of years ago and things have changed so much since then I would like to put a table together to publish in the Parts Manager that would show the following:
1) Manufacturer
2) Return Allowance Earned (if any)
3) Discounts earned on stockorder (if any)
4) Special Order Return Privledges such as 30 or 60 day return (if any)

The more manufacturers I get posted here the better idea we can get. So, please, if you can, post these percentages here on the forum and I will hope to have this published by the February issue.

Thanks,
Chuck Hartle

Chuck,Met you at the Honda Conference in Atlantic City. (1)Honda,of course.(2)there is a return allownce, based on stock order purchases. How it is calculated is somewhat of a mystery. I do know that not all parts generate accural. Also I don't know what the percentage is.(3)There is a 5% stock order discount. Once again not all parts qualify for the discount. The qualifaction for discount seems to involve smoke and mirrors. (4)There is a 28 day return on most parts. Hope this helps....

I'm with DaimlerChrysler.
Base option stock order is 5% discount on certain parts and 4% return allowance.Flex stock order option is 10% return allowance no discount. These options are chosen as you build the stock order.

No special order return priveleges. Items may only be sent back on a cycle return, unless damaged, etc. And then only if you reorder the part otherwise you get nothing.

VW/Audi
Stock return is calculated to a maximum of 6% of the stock order purchases.
Stock order discount is 1% or 1 and 1/2% if stock order purchases are 85% of
total purchases or 3% if stock order purchases are 90% of total purchases.
No 30 or 60day returns allowed.

Toyota/Lexus= 7% reserve accrued on genuine Toyota/Lexus Parts. There is some confusion as to what is a "Part"/"Accesory"/"Other".
Toyota calculates it but no one seems to know how.
No stock order discount, However there are a few chemicals with a quantity discount.
In addition to the 7% return reserve there is 3% co-op (Parts and Service)advertising credit earned.
No special 30-45-60 day return program.

Lexus is a little different than Toyota.
7% return allowance on stockorders (almost all of our orders are stockorders)
NO Stockorder discount
NO Co-op advertising credit
30 day return on any parts except HAZMAT

Also Toyota gives you a 25cents on the dollar credit for unused obsolence. That is not offered yet to Lexus.

Chuck;
Toyota in addition pays you I believe .20 on the dollar of unused monthly return allowance. Also, they have daily stock orders so you are earning return allowance on most every order every day. I just wanted to ad this to the Toyota reply.
Thanks.

With Volvo, there is zero stock allowance and no stock discount. We can,t return airbags, tires, paint ets...
We can return sor parts within 30 days, but we are penalized 15% for under $300.00 cost and for A/B parts.
