SERVICE DEPT TURNOVER

SERVICE DEPT TURNOVER

How does instability (high turnover of SA's and Techs) in the Service Dept effect the Parts Dept, it's inventory and Level of Service?
Seems to me this is a question very few dealers and/or GM's ever think about. Any opinions?

SERVICE DEPT TURNOVER

How many parts can one tech sell for you in a month? If your service department is 65% to 75% of you business and all of a sudden you are short two or three techs or one service advisor your sales will be affected dramatically.

At my last dealer we had 18 techs one summer and only 14 the next. We had no service manager in June and couldn't get the work out of the shop. My business was off 30% from the previous June. The new service manager didn't get things smoothed out until August. Even then parts sales were off 15% from the previous year. The other dealers in the area all showed increases that year.

And, of course, I had to explain all this to the owner who was looking for a 10% increase.
