In a healthy parts dept. (if there is such a thing) what percentage of total sales does wholesale typically encompass.

We're running Y.T.D. avg of 36%

Thanks in advance.

It all depends on what you mean by healthy! Our dealer runs over 80%!!! wholesale. We are selling between 240-280k/month. Our 3 countermen are all earning 50k/year, and net monthly profit is 16-22k. Pretty healthy to me. Too bad our service dept cant help our bottom line more, but we had to go where the money was.

Chris,
Like Greg says, it all depends on what healthy is. In our dealership we sell right around $180k a month, net has averaged $14800. per month this year. Of that 180 only $10k a month comes from wholesale. My counter guys are paid above average for our market. I have been blessed with a very strong service and body shop team though. I have worked at other stores that did not have a strong fixed ops team; in those stores I found it necessary to pursue wholesale to turn a profit.
