part warranty on part bought from Amazon

part warranty on part bought from Amazon

Postby Parts007 » Mon Nov 25, 2013 3:18 pm

Customer presents a receipt of a GM part number bought off of Amazon. Customer has an issue with the part six months later and wants me to do a parts warranty.
I have been looking, but does it state anywhere in GM P&P that i can warranty a part that was not purchased from a GM dealer?
Anyone else run into this before?

If you CHOOSE to do this you will NEED (as in REQUIRED):
1. Original receipt;
2. Vehicle Identification #;
3. Mileage;
4. Defective part;
5. Original cantainer;

ALSO
6. You have the right/responsibility to diagnose the defective part on the vehicle.

Interesting question.

If it's doable, what's to stop the people buying their Delco parts at AutoZone or Advanced from trying the same thing?

I guess a sale is a sale

If the customer wanted an intown warranty they should have bought the part intown. There are dozens of knockoffs in delco packaging. If the customer has a recipt from a REAL GM DEALER roll out the red carpet service no matter where the customer is from. If they live in the AMAZON send em packin.

I'd politely tell the customer to submit warranty claim with Amazon. I'm not messing with it unless part was purchased from a Dealer.

Per GM Policies and Procedures"

Part Warranty Transaction – Over the Counter (ZPTC)
This transaction type is used for warranty transactions on parts that were sold “Over the Counter” by the
Service Agent.
There is no Warranty claim type for a part sold by a non gm dealer.

OK... the person bought the part from a GM dealer 2,000 miles away. You warranty the part with the proper paperwork from the customer.

The part was bought from AMAZON - EBAY - AutoZone etc. They are NOT a Service Agent ( as defined by GM ).

Tell them to deal with who they bought if from.... no if and buts. PERIOD!

Additional GM parts warranty info:

GM warrants parts and accessories only to the Service Agent, and it will reimburse the
Service Agent for repair or replacement of any defective or malfunctioning part or accessory. The Service Agent warrants parts or accessories to the purchasers in accordance with the terms and conditions of the GM Service Agent Service Replacement Parts and Accessories Warranty.
◦ This warranty is applicable to all GM parts and accessories purchased through a GM
Service Agent.

Yep, not warrantable. I would LOVE to be the one to tell them too. You get what you pay for. You wanted it cheaper and so you get to buy it twice. Good job. I had a guy Saturday send his girlfriend up here and ask me to look up a part and give her the part number so he can order it. I politely declined although with a smirk on my face. She calls boyfriend who calls my service department bitching about it. He was told the same thing. Who do you think you are?! Crackhead!!
