Contemplating activating this feature.

Anyone have any experience with this feature to explain the pros and cons?

Thanks

I was told by more than one ADP person that this function is best for a heavy truck dealer who has cores coming out of their ying yang, and not really worth the effort for a car dealership. Best way to tell though, is to give it a whirl.

You might want to check; I had thought I heard once you turn it on you can't turn it back off but I'm not sure.

Once it's activated, it can't be turned off.

I'm just tired of expecting us mental giants(sarcasm) to remember all the cores that go out, in shop and outside.

Battery cores have become an issue, with tech's sometimes keeping 'good' batteries that customers just wanted to have replaced for peace of mind, and others that, on occasion would choose to 'scrap' them.

It just seems like we don't have any rock solid method to ensure that 'all' the cores are being returned.

jdpetey, what manufacturer(s) and ADP DMS version are you on? I can share with you what we do which isn't the greatest but it works for our situation.

Same websuite here but we are not GM......Nissan and VW. We are a pretty small store and have only 12 parts on the shelves between both franchises that have cores on them. Easy to keep track of for us.

We have a bunch of labels preprinted which say "***CORE CHARGE*** MUST BE RETURNED IN ORIGINAL BOX FOR CREDIT. We stick those labels right away on every part when it comes in and is put on the shelf or set out for a job. We also write the repair order number or part ticket number on the box so when it is returned we know what job it was from. When we return the cores for credit, they are tagged with the RO or invoice number as well so we can track the credit back to original part. The core charges and credits are broken out on our parts invoices from the manufacturer into their own accounts which our office manager keeps tabs on referencing the RO or invoice number on invoice and credit to make sure they wash out. I know this may sound screwy but we have found that it works for us. I looked into ADP's core tracking a while back but from what I was told and others have said, it is only really used for heavy truck dealers where cores are a majority of the parts. Would be nice to have the feature tailored for us dealers though. VW's PSeudo-U cores can get a little tricky using the same core number for multiple part numbers when returning cores but that is where writing down the RO numbers on the parts and notating that number in the return documents keeps things easier.

We had this same problem with batteries. We now require the old battery to be brought in before a new one is handed out on an RO.

They techs might whine like babies but it solved the problem.

jd-
I to have heard from many core tracking by adp is not only cumbersum but designed for heavy trk, on the battery side....I was getting frustrated with batts and cores so we created a seperate account for each rather than use the general inv account. At first I thought it was gonna s=#k, but it takes minutes to complete a monthly inventory. I set up a excel spread sheet that calculates both qty of batterys, cores and wip. It also alows me to imput shippers that I have product but not billed for.
You to can have general inv, tires, oil and battery inventorys. What next

Manually add the core price in Pm and charge the core on the repair order when selling the battery.
