Tips & Tricks:

I noticed the other thread getting longer each day. Let's put some of those helpful hints in this one!

Upon coding a cylinder & keys for a 2007 HHR last night, I noticed the original key will not fit into the new cylinder. MAKE SURE TECHS DO NOT TAKE OLD CYLINDER OUT prior to programming the new keys!! The new keys worked in the door, though.

Denise: I do realize you are being serious but I can't help but think, given all the crap that came through on this, that you are about to get "quotes from outhouse walls". Just had our Tech in "complianing" about the time alloted for the recall. A "premadonna" that is not going to get enough time to "ride" a BUNCH of RO's!

We have done quite a few of them. Just had a different tech start doing them, and he checked the new keys on doors and decklid (which previously was not being done), guess what? Most of them are not working.

Don't mean to highjack your thread but need tips on what to do to get a second switch for the recall? one of our techs broke the switch I had for a customer vehicle. I contacted my rep and he doesn't have an answer.

One tech told me new keys work great in old door and trunk cyls, but cust's old keys won't work (wont even go into) the new cylinder.

Has anyone made up a game plan for stock protection when some of these 1957 Edsels don't show up for the recall?
I don't know about the rest of you but we NEVER see 100% customer return on special orders, especially when it is going to take weeks to get. $64 a pop and oh by the way we have 42 left over from no shows. Might hurt the inventory just a wee bit.

Has anyone submitted a claim yet for a sublet on the coding the key cylinder? Are you getting paid anything over $31.30? Is there a special way to put the claim into GM to get it paid?

I thought the Old keys are to be turned in when recall is being performed and then old keys destroyed after completion of recall :?:

Asked our GM rep about keys not working in doors and trunks. He said using a wire brush to polish the keys usually works, but if not they may have to authorize replacing door and trunk cylinders also.
