New LASER CUT Machines

We just decided to bite the bullet and purchase/ NOT LEASE the BD laser cut machine. ( estimated time of delivery 2weeks) Those of you that have it or know stores that do, What if any are you guys/gals charging to cut the keys?, and if so, is that fee on top of the key price?...

We charge $10.00 fee to cut these on the Lazer machine, which doesn't even cover the monthly lease; You could charge more but this is what we agreed on here between Parts, Service and Sales dep'ts. "Creative" accounting could split the lease between dept, if you know what I mean. Besides,I figure it costs an extra $20.00 to order one already cut from GM, so it's a bargain and same-day service too (if we have the blank in stock). As I stated in a previous thread, it's just one of those things you need to have, money maker or not.

ps. We do not charge for cutting regular keys, so that machine lease is kind of a loss too...

Good luck. Mine has been broken for 9 weeks now, and they do not care if it ever gets fixed.

We got ours up and running last Thursday and have cut about 90 keys sofar and it looks like we will have to replace the cutter very soon, which they told us was good for about 100 keys. We haven't switched it from the Cobalt style keys to the high security keys yet. That is where you will have a problem if you are not careful, you need patience something which I lack so I need to be extra careful.

They say the bit is only good for 100 keys but we have cut at least 300 on the original bit... don't buy unless you absolutley have to. We charge $20 to cut laser keys on top of the $100 we charge for the key code.

Yes $100.. Locksmiths in the area charge twice that.
