I know this has probably been mentioned on here before, but, to be honest, I'm too lazy to search for it. What are you doing as far as coding cylinders in advance? We've been coding cylinders the day before the customer is scheduled to arrive. Just two parts guys here and it can get pretty hectic. I'm seriously considering having a cylinder coding party (what fun that will be) and coding everything we've got one night--then from that point coding them when they come in, but I don't really want to get stuck with the no-shows. Thoughts?

We code them in advance. We have been burned twice, one got totaled and the other traded to a dealer. I am trying to sell it to the other dealer at cost but he is not cooperating at this pioint. : - ( Just got burned for the third time, traded to another dealer, attempting to sell it to them..

The techs are coding them here when the car comes in.

It only takes a few minutes, and they'll get quicker the more they do.

We're cutting keys and coding cyls prior to notifying service to make an appointment. That way it's on my schedule, during a down moment between putting in SPAC cases on stoopy recalls. They only take about 10 mins; just trying to find the time is frustrating!

I cut the keys before service knows the parts are here. I don't do the cylinders - techs get paid .4 for it

Each of my kits have the RO# written right on the box and my counterguy still handed out a wrong one earlier this week. Tech comes in saying the keys don't work. I compared original to my cut keys and could see it was 2 cuts off but 1 in the wrong direction. I tried to trace it anyway and ruined one of the keys. Went out to his bay and looked at the box to see the wrong RO # written on it - doh. Should have checked that first. At least I only ruined 1 key for the car it's supposed to go to. Luckily, I had one of that key extra from an earlier screw up.

I won't allow them to cut keys until the vehicle is in our possesion. Period.

Service manager refuses to pay for any that the customer has sold, traded, totaled - ect and so does GM, so they will wait.

We are getting them in in batches now and we have about 8 Enterprise cars to stick them in for a day while we do the recall.

No car........ No cuts. Already had one that went to another Dealer. Sold him the kit for it so there will not be any "free" cuts going down the road. The car was a POS and service would not give them a rental as they had not had any "issues" and refused the option of removing items from the key chain.

I refuse to cut keys or code cylinder until vehicle is in our shop in case the customer never shows up I can use that kit for another vehicle if need be.

I've been reluctant to turn anyone down for a rental because I don't need to get involved with an issue where a customer calls GM and tells them we refused to put them in courtesy transportation that they're "entitled" to. We had a lady come in yesterday who said she wanted a rental because she feels unsafe driving her car due to the recall. Tech walked up to the vehicle after she left and showed me the right front wheel had about 3-4" of play in it because the suspension is jacked up. She's had it in here multiple times recently and every time we've told her what the vehicle needs to have fixed...declined. But, she's unsafe because her key sticks in the ignition.
