A California law firm says General Motors could face up to $10 billion in exposure from a suit claiming that the automaker's brand is damaged, diminishing the value of its vehicles.

I would have thought the bankrupcy had already did that.

This is the law firm behind the lawsuit: "Hagens Berman Sobol Shapiro LLP is a plaintiff-focused law firm that seeks to protect the rights of consumers, workers, whistleblowers, investors and others." They have sued everyone from GM to Toyota to Google. Check out the case list on their website.
I imagine they sue these big companies for big bucks (like 10 billion $) allegedly on the consumer's behalf, hoping for a big settlement. Then they toss a little money to the consumers and line their pockets with the rest.
