Hello, I'm new to the forum. Been reading through and there's a lot of helpful ideas out there. My questions deals with returns/return reserves. What's the best way to go about using my reserve? Should I use most of it on the parts that Service ordered and the customers never showed up? Or use it on older inventory? Also is there a timeframe to return the parts Service ordered in with a lesser penalty? Thanks in advance, any help would be appreciated.

I make a spread sheet of the service parts and add them to my return. Usually my returns over just over 3 grand per month not counting my RIM returns

I would say depends on how much obsolete inventory you have. The oldest should almost always go first. Just keep in mind that next month most of your 11 MNS will be 12 MNS and so on.

I don't use my reserves for CSO returns. I can charge the shop for the 35% return fee and it's a good incentive for the service manager to make his advisore call their customers or make CP prepay. I use my reserves to get rid of non-RIM, number changes and old stock.

I have sources for Sales Returns, Service Returns, Body Shop Returns and Wholesale Returns. It makes it easier to track all those types of returns and will make it easier if you decide to charge those departments for the returns after you receive credit for them. I have a report that shows me everything on my shelf with the oldest MNS and that is how I make my return file for the month. I hope these tips help...

Be sure to pay attention to MNR as well as MNS too.
