Just curious if any of you guys and gals think that this could be the end of GM, will this recall sink GM , with bad sales trends and 1st quarter losses and years of litigation to come,as well as their unfunded liability pension issues, I think that we could see a day in the not so distant future where GM will not only bankrupt but not exist. I hope i am wrong but they seem to have a mountain to climb. What is your take on this?

Nope

Bad sales trends?? Our store's vehicle sales are up. Parts and Service sales are down, because we can't do anything but damn recalls.

Nope, our dealer as well as our closest and main competition are booking 1-2 weeks out for brake jobs. We are hammered and have had record months even with the recall bonanza. Now we aren't selling as many used cars, but new car sales are up tremendously.

Sadly, when I wake up, all I hear his the shrill of the key cutting machine.

I have worried about the same thing. GM hasn't even settled with the dealers that they closed. However, I'm sure their accountants are quite imaginative and have accrued for many of their extra costs already. The dividends will be lower, their net profit won't come close to Ford but if they do the right thing for customers and dealers, they should survive.

Barkrupt?

They'll just print more money. Or borrow it from China.

Wait... No, that's the Gov't.

It's not going to happen from the recall mess. I believe they profited $11 billion last year!!! Even if this recall mess costs them $1 billion it wouldn't even hurt them considerably; especially since sales are up right now.

11 billion in profit.... dont they still owe us (US taxpayer) some money.... I did not know they turned that profit-I thought they lost money this year and last. Unless of course they have the federal government accounting office reporting. Yes the border is secure! Yes , Social security is healthy and will not run out of money, Yes, we do not spy on american people, yes, your healthcare costs will go down.. oh well

Probably not the end, but GM, like the Government, is not watching what is really going on and has fallen asleep at the switch (oops, better recall that switch). It is a management issue and GM simply is too bloated to monitor what junior executives are doing to "make themselves look good" at the expense of the company later.
