What do you guys do when a tech mis diagnoses parts and you have an opened dirty part that you cant send back or sell to someone over the counter?
Tech sold a turbo ($1300) installed and didnt fix the problem. It actally needed an engine rebuild.....

I won't take it back either. I will take back little things that are in packaging that can be close back up and the part doesn't really look installed. Something big like a turbo, no way. If they can't find a way to leave it on the ticket then I will charge it to the shop. If it's really expensive I will charge to the shop at cost, because my SM doesn't have a habit of screwing my dept over.

Charge it to Service; teach the Service manager and the Tech to be more careful.

In the old days, the tech ate the part as well as his time! Now days, I bill it to Service Policy, with discounts according to the SM attitude du jour.

$1300 divided by dealership ave annual net profit percentage = total $ sales consumed by one major screw up in service. IF I was the DP, GM, or Service Director, I would want to know about this. After all it is profit for the dealer gone and Mom (the entire dealership) took the hit. Could be anywhere from $20K to 60K worth of sales swept under the rug!

Hey its very simple when it comes to me making the call if one of my guys or me
gave out a wrong part you know how long it would take service dept to hit me with labor
for having to do it over about as fast as a light switch is or i've even seen faster than that
unless its one of the good techs we have they just say aw it happens give me the right one
and thats it but some of them i tell you it seems like i'll see it on the 5 o'clock eye witness news
or 10 whenever i get home that night .

That's the way it's done here. I will plus it back in and put it on the shelf tagged for "service only". If they sell I will credit it back, untill then it belongs to them.
