"Effective immediately, the recalled ignition switch and lock cylinder part return projects identified in GM’s communication G_0000192839 and G_0000194414 have been closed. We sincerely appreciate your assistance with these projects. Please note that, although these projects have been closed, the parts presently flagged for return in the Global Warranty Management (GWM) System must still be returned to GM pursuant to the previously communicated part return guidelines.

Going forward, you will not receive notification as part of the GWM claims process that such ignition switch and lock cylinder parts must be returned. Accordingly, after the expiration of the normal 15-day dealer holding period (or 24-hour holding period for Certified Elite Dealers), and in accordance with GM Service Policy and Procedures, the ignition switch and lock cylinder parts replaced under recalls 13454, 14063, 14092, and 14113 should be properly disposed of and scrapped to remove any possibility that such parts could re-enter the stream of commerce.

This message does not alter the procedures that all dealers (including Certified Elite Dealers) are required to follow with respect to the retention of the parts specified in General Motors message G_0000197535, dated August 1, 2014. We are taking steps that may allow us in the near future to modify that parts retention requirement. We will advise all dealers of any changes to those instructions as soon as possible. Thank you for being a GM dealer and your continued cooperation with this request. "

Am I missing something here, I thought we just got a bulletin that stated we have to keep all recall parts indefinitely, and now they are saying to scrap after 15 days?

But, if I read this correctly, we now have to store these parts indefinitely as we do other parts from recalls. Basically, GM no longer pays the freight. We supply the storage area. I know it said we could scrap them, but then it turns right around and says to follow the other bulletin for dealer retention.......

I think what it's saying is ignition switches you have to hold on to for 15 days after the claim is paid, then you can scrap them. All other recall parts listed on their archaic chart have to be retained until further notice.

Today's bulletin only applies to the ignition switches/cylinders we've been returning for the past several months - nothing else changed

And yes, it says in the second paragraph of today's bulletin that we can return to the standard way of scrapping after 15 days (or 24 hours if Certified Elite)

Phil - the 3rd paragraph is just a reminder about that other bulletin about retaining everything else - ignition parts can be tossed like other warranty parts from now on

NO, now they are having me return shift cables, steering motors, little yellow connectors and PS modules. I've done 34 in the last few days. They need to stop this garbage, I'm about to have to postpone my inventory, because I don't have time to work my bins and get this place straightened up to count.
