Make sure to keep the box and not let the tech's damage them since we get to send these back.

"minor hassles" encountered with the local FedEx Ground operations while trying to ship back a Cruze airbag...

1. followed the detailed GM instructions to the "inth degree".
2. take the package to the local FedEx store, they refuse it.
3. instructed to take it to the delivery hub.
4. package accepted by FedEx employee at the delivery hub not trained in Dangerous Goods (she made it very clear she didn't know what she was doing)
5. four days later, employee mentioned in #4 calls and says we need to pick-up the parcel, paperwork is all wrong.
6. following day I pick-up the package from same employee mentioned in #4 and #5. she is polite and lets me know paperwork is wrong, again.
7. before leaving, she adds that the real problem is that their shuttle driver (shuttles loads to the processing center from the delivery hub) is not HazMAt qualified, and he is the one that said the paperwork is all wrong.
8. I am instructed to take the parcel to the processing center several miles away.
9. Processing Center is not set up for rec'ing single parcels, especially hazmat items. Must wait for a qualified supervisor to accept the package.
9a. Twidles his green thumbs.
10. Twelve minutes later a qualified supervisor inspects and receives the air bag. He comments that they don't use these labels and forms anymore, but they are acceptable.

unbelievable.

Hey greenthumbs, where are you located? And is this the only way you can do it? Do you always have to go to the HUB?

Please post that to DFOAB. We don't need to be risking the $10,000+ fines associated with HazMat shipping. These parts need to go back in a cage to the PDC and let them forward to whomever. It's ridiculous.

Located in Sunny California...

We don't have enough out going freight to warrant a daily pick-up according to their standards. We used to back in the day when we were shipping out 20 or 30 sprint shipments everyday, but that all changed. Sometimes the daily driver will take stuff, but generally we don't have our outgoing shipments ready at that early hour of the day.

A small FedEx store is about a mile away and we drop off when we have stuff going out. The small FedEx store will NOT accept dangerous goods, they don't even want the box inside the store. Sometimes the small store will not accept larger parcels and then we have to go to the hub, but it is few and far between. I guess I could call and arrange a pick-up, but usually the hassle of all that wears me out, and we just drive it over.

You are right, this is ridiculous...

my larger beef right now is the labor process required to send back cores. Seems like everything is having a core value these days. It is a loss. Every core return costs me money. I haven't seen an adjustment for the cores that GM reversed (and I already paid for btw), furthering the loss of my core processes.

I recently returned about 10 of these airbags using the paperwork that was sent to me. I left them for my Fed Ex Ground driver and he took them with no problem.

At least one person in the department should have it just to cover your a**. If you do ANY wholesale deliveries then it is probably a MUST. Don't know what he signed you up for but "HazMat U" is reasonably priced.

It's not a bad thing to have especially if you are going to be the only one in the dealership with it. It only takes a couple of hours and should be good for 3 years.
