GM Warranty - Oil Filter Question

I was asked a question today that made me stop and think. All of these vehicles that are receiving 'free' LOF & Tire Rotations as part of the new vehicle warranty.
WARRANTY? - The maintenance program is listed under applicable warranties in IVH.
The claims are submitted to Global Warranty as ZREG (normal warranty) claims.
Are we supposed to be retaining the removed filters like any other warranty part? We currently are not doing so. The mess would be incredible.
Has anyone had a DMA check this?
Are we required to do to this?
I hate to ask anyone from GM.

Ichabod: You just did ask someone at GM. They cruise this sight like hawks looking for a mouse. Probably just opened a can of worms, but then if they do call a filter back how in the hell would they know what car it came off of? Hazmat shipping for a USED oil filter, ya know I really would not put it past them.

From: Generous Motors Document ID: 3681268 -- Global Disconnect Msg# 04-00-89-015G:
Section 6. PROPER DOCUMENTATION AND RETENTION OF WARRANTY PARTS
"Oil filters replaced under Brand Maintenance Programs may be discarded immediately in order to
pose minimal environmental or safety risks. Cabin Filters and Engine Air Filters replaced under
such programs are subject to the regular warranty parts retention period."

That's pretty stoopid.

Maybe not that stoopid. I'm sure that nobody here in this forum would kink the factory by claiming replacement and not actually doing it, but I bet you all know at least 3 people who would. Without the retention rules, there would be no way to keep THOSE folks honest. From one who worked both for dealerships and for a manufacturer.
