I know many of you have probably been through this, but I need a key for an '11 Impala #23267471 per the catalog. Key shows as a good and current part number bla bla bla but its not available, no inventory anywhere. I have a 23223178 which looks like the original key. Help me to understand the engineering notes on 23223178..

"Engineering Notes Details

Part Number: 23223178
Description: PART NUMBER 23223178. KEY. FOR 2006-2015. CHEVROLET W19 APPLICATIONS. MUST USE. WITHOUT OPTION CODES. 6E2. & 6E8. CUT KEY. PART NUMBER 23267471. & WITH 6E2. PART NUMBER 23267472. & WITH 6E8. PART NUMBER 23267473. & THERE ARE NO UNCUT KEYS AT THIS TIME."

Who writes this gibberish? 23223178 IS an uncut key.

Does the 23223178 have a small hole in the key head or the big slot? If it has the big slot they don't want those in circulation and the new part numbers will all have the small hole. Get ready they are all going to replaced with new covers that have the small hole per the new recall that will be coming out soon.

Don't know who the hell they are trying to kid anyways. I have a "medium" size key ring with 14 keys on it (work and home), 8 standard size keys and 6 smaller ones, IE: 66 P/U ignition and door. The ring fits just fine in the "small hole" keys. People are going to do what ever they damn well chose anyway and all the recalls in the world are not going to change that.
What a joke!!

It has the big hole like all the regular keys before the recalls . I ordered it on 8/26 and received it 8/30 so its currently available.

They are most likely exhausting the stock of the 3178 #. Eventually all of those keys will have the small hole. :P
