I am going to make GM's day (or week, or month) in as much as it is time for me to tell all of you "have a nice day". I have put in my 43+ years in the parts business, been somewhat wise in my money management and it is time to reap the rewards and spend a little more time doing what I want to do.
I have spent close to 40 years at GM Dealerships and at one time had a "loyalty" to GM equal to those that call themselves "upper management" at the generals place. Truly amazing how such short sighted greed can piss loyalty away. GM thinks they can supplement loyalty with some piddling little amount of discounts as if it can be bought and never stop to realize that it has to go both ways to even start. A sad state of affairs at best.
Those of you that are young and new at this I have no envy for you, especially if you are in a small Dealership (under tier 1) as you are nothing more than a thorn in GM's side. As long as you keep that truth in mind and DO NOT back off of what you deserve as a "customer", then one day the corporate clowns may get their heads out and start treating ALL Dealers equal, although somehow I doubt it.
Enough of the rant! I have honestly enjoyed all of the insight you have all shared in the short time that I have been involved in the forum. It is well worth it to keep it going and spread the word to other parts managers, plus GM hates it. Open conversation and the rapid spread of ideas is what will keep you all alive. I wish you all the very best in the future. Be wise in how you buy and how you save for yourself and you will be able to say good bye with a smile on your face. So with a rifle slung over my shoulder and a fly pole in the one hand, I now tip a glass of Jack Daniels with the other and salute you all.
