PARTS DRIVER ACCIDENT

What is the policy in your store if a parts driver gets in an accident and it was his fault. Does he pay/participate in the deductable or not? What if it is a counterman filling in for a driver and gets in an accident? Accident could be as simple as they back up to a parked car in a parking lot or more like rear end someone. Thanks

Accident is an accident, sh!t happens. Thats why we have insurance. If it happened on the job then the employer should pay deductable. If somebody drives all day everyday then odds are they will be involved in an accident at some point.

Correct!!!! As much time as a "employed" driver spends on the road the odds are they are going to be hit or hit someone. As long as it wasn't "road rage" then thats the way it is. Driver IS responsable for their own tickets though.

I agree with Cliff and Who... to add to that, driver's are responsible for parking tickets too. Accidents are part of the cost of doing business. Speeding and stupidity are not.

Things would be different if they are a contract driver using their own transportation.

Write him up, document. Back when we had a fleet of trucks and drivers, I made certain the driver wrote out a report in his own handwriting, signed and dated. I let go several drivers for too many accidents or unsafe driving.

I am guessing it was a rear-ender... There are three things that cause rear-end accidents...
1. following too close.
2. driving too fast.
3. being distracted... or a combination of any (or all) of them.

~ gt is now down to one driver. boy things have changed...

Small town-Family owned Dealership. Dealership has $1000 deductible. Driver pays half. It is in our hand book and every new employee signs an agreement at start up date. Hard to tell a part time employee working 2 days per week to pay the $500 co-pay;' however, it's policy.

Bad slam on a "part timer". But you do get what you sign up for. Perhaps the DP is willing to work out a payment plan so the employee does not take the whole bite at once. If they are a "good" employee it's worth working with them to keep them around.

They do get the option of working off the payment.
