Is anyone having issues with the spring retainer, included in ign. cyl. kits 15841209 & 19120481, collapsing upon assembly? We are using the J41340 tools and two different people have collapsed the spring retainer rendering it useless; one on each part number. The retainer is not available separately, so we keep an extra kit in case. Checked DFOAB, but no issues reported.
Yeah this retainer is quite the pain in the butt. I have collapsed two myself. I am glad I am not the only one.
Now I mount the cylinder in a vise and the retainer has to go in straight. I tap in the side closest to the head a little, and then the other end. Very delicate procedure. If I don't think it is going in straight, I will abort and restart.
Thank you for the part number, I will definitely get some if possible. We try to gently push the retainer down into the ends, then insert it into the tool, then vice, and tap with the other piece provided. Sent a note to DFOAB, so we shall see. Thanks to all for the feedback
I have the trick for the retainer. I purchased a 1/8 pin punch from the hardware store. Use the punch in the center of the end. See picture. Works great!
Funny, I destroyed a retainer today and had to break open a new 15841209 cylinder to get the retainer to complete the job. They are so fragile!(must be Italian)
I've done a few without issue, I just use a small flat head screw driver and start with key entry side. Does your tech get the credit for assembly too?
