I am taking on the role of Parts Director for a 6 line dealership.

I will have parts managers for each line underneath me.

What duties does the PD vs the duties of PM?

I would say part would be overseeing all of their annual inventories as well as end of month numbers. Going to bat for them with accounting issues and other issues with other departments. Solving disputes with other departments if necessary as well as watching over them depending on their skill and ability and making sure they aren't getting screwed by service or sales. Just keeping a presence in each store so they know you are there and watching them. Determine if any practices need to be changed to benefit them and the service department. Just being a general overseer.

Thanks.
its been a while since I worked under a director.

that was what I had in mind I would do as well as look for ways to increase profit, decrease expenses, add on-line selling, see if wholesale is profitable.

Looking forward to the new challenges that await me!

Good luck in your new position. :D In addition to what you have already listed, I chart key factors historically and compare them between the stores. I use them to mark trends, both good and bad, that deserve attention. Reach out if you want to talk or an outside opinion.
