So I follow my PDC's instructions on returning superseded parts which are this:
4) When returning Superseded Parts to the PDC: Once you receive a Material Return tag for a part that has a superseded part number, you will need to place a white label next to the return tag you place on the part package / container. Be sure to write “SUPERSESSION” on the white label. Please do not cover the old part number with the white label.

I get a grille returned to me from my PDC where someone scribbled on my return name "not a suppersession".

I double check in part information and it defnitely is a valid supersession.

I call the MR supervisor at the PDC he tries convincing me that the only superseded parts that can be returned are RIM parts! I told him I returned 2 or 3 other superseded #'s on that same return and received credit for them and he says I shouldn't have.

Anybody else ever have this issue?

He's right, once a part supercedes, you own it unless it was a RIM part. Whoever was checking in your return probably just entered that grille # wrong to come up with that. Shame cause if he got it right, you would have got credit for it like the other 2 parts.

I had the same scenario as you with a RIM part ($450 steering gear) and they sent it back too saying the same thing, not a supercession. I talked to the MR supervisor, faxed over proof from the RIM site and our DMS and she took care of it. Even got to scrap the part.

You're probably out of luck though. I've got a few old alternators I've been stuck with among other things because of number changes.

Not sure why they want us to put that tag on the parts that do supercede then. I've done it a bunch of times on regular returns and never had an issue. Doesn't make sense either considering they are the same parts just an updated #.

For Non-RIM parts, you have 12 months from the date of supersession to return these parts.
No white tag is necessary if you return the item before the 12th month passes.
The most important part of getting it done is to make sure that the old number is the number transmitted to GM at the time the return is sent to GM.
If your DMS shows OH stock of the NEW number, but you have it OH under the OLD number, if the return is downloaded to communication side and sent, the NEW number will be the number that will process. If it was a Non-RIM return, you cannot white tag these parts. If transmitted using old number, the pick tag will have the old number on it.
I check supersession report every Monday to see if any OH parts will be superseding, and then check to see if they were RIM ordered or not.
I also use Delay-PNC in order to show OH of original part number on package.

Be very carefull with that .

I have ADP and it deleted out the new part number along with the supersession after a few months no sale.

I got stuck with a lot of parts under the old number that way.

We are a smaller dealer and I've seen a few hiccups with the Delay PNC feature, but through experience I've discovered most of the pros and cons.

I've set up my sources on CDK/ADP to utilize the Delay PNC feature. When we run the monthly Parts Master Update (PMU), I immediately run Report Part Changes (RPC), and it will show me all the numbers ON FILE that have superseded to new numbers, along with which ones have Delay PNCs. Parts with zero OH will automatically supersede to new number. Usually there aren't too many parts with OH that have Delay PNCs. Then I can check the ones that are OH to see which method, RIM or not, they were last ordered under. If the part was Special Ordered, then I know it will need to go on a monthly return within the next 12 months UNDER THE OLD NUMBER. Usually when this occurs during the PMU, if the source for that particular part is set to update to the default GM Sources within CDK, the old numbers will update to Source 100. This also makes it easy to run an RPG Report of parts with Source 100 with an OH to monitor which parts may need returned on NON-RIM Returns.

RIM's treatment of these situations can be tricky also. One of the necessary steps to avoid problems when you have an OH of the Old Number, and the Delay PNC takes affect, the new number is often Not Found in Inventory, i.e. not RIM managed, and it's best to insert the new number to be managed by RIM and it will tie the Old Number to the New Number.

There have been a few miscues here and there, but you will not find but a few parts in my inventory that have white tags with new numbers written on them. And the ones that do, have labels indicating when the last RIM Order put the part in our inventory, with a note to contact RIM when it reaches 15 months from the Last Sale Date.

All this hoopla for the cases when old numbers cost more than the new number, and I want to get full reimbursement for the parts that don't sell. Not to mention eliminating return rejections.

ADP/CDK/POS has been a total nightmare on part number changes on paint. I put them in as delayed, since I still have some of the old tubes, but CDK just overwrites that and goes on to the new number.

Look at your sources there is a setting that needs to be looked at that will allow for delay PNC in that source.
