Delivery Driver Log

I'm curious what others are using for a parts delivery log. I have four drivers, we don't really leave town, go out 20 miles or so. Currently we are using an excel file so the drivers can record the runs they are taking themselves with departure and return times. We're looking to upgrade, or at least improve. What is everyone out there doing?

We try to have parts delivered to a customer within an hour of the order

we just use a log book; manually write in the stops, time of run (am or pm, we do 2 runs) and invoice #. seems to work.

We use a fleet tracking system. Elite Extra, it's really price competitive with no contract (pay as you go). It provides real time tracking and comes with a lot of reports you can have automatically run. It saves customer signatures and can automatically route the runs if you need. It had a few stumbling blocks out of the gate but it was more us. Just getting the drivers used to using them. I can get you their contact info if you like, I highly recommend them.

that's impressive - great service.

I'm lucky to have my one driver available and not doing stuff for sales or service

We use scribblar DOT com. Created a customer white board with spaces for each driver, as well as outbound deliveries divided by route. Its free, and allows you to see in real time where stuff is at. The drivers all keep a log sheet with them as well. PM for more details..
