Another dealership needed a seatbelt extender we had in stock. As you know GM does not charge us for them. What is the proper way to correct inventory. I say bill it out to the other dealership at zero cost and zero dollars sale. Thus keeping record of the transaction and inventory straight. Others say just do a manual on hand correction.
Which way would you say is correct?
Thanks Dave

I always bill them out at 0 cost, 0 sale. Keeps things easy to track.

Definitely bill them, just like any other part. It was ordered, receipted, and should be sold. The price doesn't matter but the transaction history does. Be sure if you sell them to a retail customer that they are instructed proper use, placement and they sign the work order/parts invoice. There is a liability issue if they are used incorrectly.

Thanks Possum, I will have to check into that, we have never had them sign anything. I will check the P&P manual and see what it says.

Possum is correct.
We also bill these at zero cost, zero sale. However, on the invoice we add a comment that the customer acknowledges they were given instructions on proper use. We then require the customer to sign the invoice.
Liability - got to love it.
