RIM and Obsolescence

Anyone mind sharing a few #'s?

Total Inventory Value
Protected RIM Value (get from RIM website)
Unprotected RIM Value (")
Parts no sale over 12 months
Parts no sale over 18 months
Parts no sale over 24 months

I just got slammed in a meeting with the high OBS value (12 months/no sale), and my blaming RIM didn't go over well

Total Inventory Value 174,371
Protected RIM Value (get from RIM website) 115,747
Unprotected RIM Value (") 54,394
Parts no sale over 12 months $46,930
Parts no sale over 18 months $25,249
Parts no sale over 24 months $10,797

We actually switched to 24 month rim terms to give us a longer chance to sell items since we are a small dealer. Also on the unprotected value, a lot of that Is special order parts, tires and oil. And I wont use Return Reserve on anything less than 36 months. Most of the time we do a cash conversion.

I routinely have to defend managers with 12 month no sale numbers when we have forced inventory from RIM or any other makes program. The standard DMS programs need to be altered to account for factory forced and protected inventory.

Where do you get these numbers from? I can find the number on the RIM site you referenced. But what screen or report do you use to determine the other numbers? We're on Reynolds.

Oh, and someone asked me in a PM why my unprotected was so high.... we have 3 oil tanks that hold a total of 2,500 gallons, plus we stock a lot of tires, and accessories; AND we preload bed liners - so all that combines to a huge amount of unprotected inventory.

Total Inventory Value $485 000
Protected RIM Value (get from RIM website) $210 220
Unprotected RIM Value (") $158 056
Parts no sale over 12 months $28 609

First off RIM does not calculate my total inventory correctly.
I just listed everything over 12 as my DMS month end does not break it out that way and I didn't want to make a report for it.
Also have much more than enough return reserve to cover 12 MNS.
