I recently became the parts manager for a small Buick, GMC & Subaru dealership. I have worked in the GM parts business for several years, therefore I'm more familiar with GMs procedures. Subaru, on the other hand, has my head spinning. So if anyone in here is currently in the Subaru parts business, or was in the past, hopefully you can give me some insight on a few things.
Thanks in advance!

I was six years ago but my have written most of it out of my memory.
Like you was given it with zero training and information but do recall Rep and Subaru in general was very helpful.
In fact one of the most dealer/parts support oriented manufactures I have ever dealt with.

I agree with you that Subaru's support is far superior to what I get from GM.. But there is one thing in particular that my Rep & I don't seem to agree on, and that is ordering and selling Subaru oil, atf, coolant, and chemicals.. the way you order under one part number, and are supposed to inventory it and sell it under another, when the cost sometimes differs, just baffles me. I can't find any concrete explanation or procedure to this process. Maybe I just care too much about keeping my inventory dollars as accurate as possible.

Yeah others are like that also.
Order one 5 gal pail of part # x, inventory and sell as 50 of part # y, and if warranty sell at $ z. It's a pain.

Hey, aaron...Welcome
I'm a Subaru parts manager( Washington DC area), only 2 months now. I spent 12 years with Chrysler and a short 2 year stretch with Toyota/ Hyundia.
In my opinion Subaru is the better than all three, Nothing is overly complicated, Yes they have the same issues as other OEM's but that is the nature of the
business, not the manufacturer.
As far as the part number issue with ordering one number and selling another, yeh its a pain but you can make a lot of money and Subaru doesn't care. The returns are liberal and easy, Rep has been very helpful.
Let me know if there is anything I can Do for you.

I guess a question of mine would be - We have Subaru 0w20 synthetic oil in bulk, quart bottles, and gallon bottles. Do you inventory and sell it all under the warranty # SOA635045? That is how the former manager was doing it, and the inventory was way off.

that is exactly how we do it, All under one number. Counts are always close, since inventorying bulk oil is less than an exact science anyway.
but since we buy it at 2.95qt and cost it at 5.00qt.. close is ok
