Opinions are probably like arm pits, everybody has one and usually two and they don't always smell the same.
My opinion before and after signing up for this program is still the same, General Motors likes it. Our customers could really care less, they do business with us because of who we are, not because of some program.
We already had everything in place and had had it in place long before signing up with GM, the only thing we didn't have was the lifetime warranty and that's not impossible for a dealership to do on their own either.
We signed up because of politics and Market Area pressure, just a number to make somebody look good, and then we have to pay this yearly fee that they can't intelligently explain what it's for.
What would really make it more appealing is to offer it with "cross line warranty", therefore those who do the best and most service would retain the customers better. Then it would be an excellent profit center for those that can offer all GM customers a one stop shop.
That's my opinion, good or bad.

it is a crossline Warranty! We are the only GM dealer in town that is Plus. We get business from the Pontiac & Cadillac stores purely because we offer the lifetime warranty (ok, in the case of the Caddy store our door rate is $5/unit lower too). And with the new enhancements, it really is a better deal for the customer. I still think the yearly "fees" are outragous, but it does pay for some decent National Advertising.

I agree about the fees! But in defense, there are no fees for the seasonal promotions such as "goodtime savings" which also receive nation wide ad campaign. Also they provide some pretty nice signage at no charge. My department has noticed little to no change because of it, I make a point to explain in detail features and benifiets, so far (1 year) no one has come in and said specifically "I want you to replace this ___ because it is a service plus warrantied part" or mention it in any form. Cheers or jeers? I'm waiting to see.

P.S. From what I have gathered, gm service plus has been in effect in select areas since 1990, and will be manditory such as
chryslers 5 star, dealers who do not participate will be punished in one way or another....
