I am assuming that we are talking about submitting warranty claims through the internet - whether live on line or under some type of intranet arrangement.

Ford and GM are there and ready to go in a limited amount. I honestly haven't heard when they expect this to be rolled out in large numbers or to the entire dealer body.

If you've dug around on the dealerworld site enough you might have noticed that there is an area for WINS claim submissions. From what I understand (which isn't much) this feature isn't usable by most dealers yet. I don't even know who you'd talk to in order to make it usable.

The leaders in blazing this territory of e-claims are some of the claim processing services out there, so maybe they could shed some light on the topic.

I think giving the resources Ford and GM have put behind it, that this communication system certainly is the wave of the future. Afterall, why use expense direct dial-up leased lines or satellite communications when you could just communicate very cheaply over the internet.

E-claims will never be the only way of submiting claims. As matter of fact, unless you are on handwritten repair orders or are a claims processing company, you should avoid entering claims via the Internet and/or Dealerworld at all costs.

E-claims have absolutley no integration with your dealership's DSP (e.g. ADP and Reynolds), so claims submitted this way could create a nightmare for your accounting department (or you).

The e-claim system should be avialable for all GM dealers at this time. But, it should only be used in the case that your DSP went down and claims could not be processed. If this was the case, claims would be paid with the possibility that they were not posted through your system and many adjustments would have to be made.

My recommendation would be to go in and look at the system, but do not enter claims. To access the system go to http://www.gm-dealerworld.com or get it through Access. You will have to enter your Autopartners password and I.D. (the same one you use for GMVIS).

On the other hand, hand written dealers need to get moving on this. DCS will see its last day on July 3rd. The format for processing claims (e.g. DCS printouts) is much different and takes some getting used to.

e-claims... GM franchise; our Sys Admin waited before buying a pile of PCs.... R&R has a "Patch"..... No need to "double-key" WINS claims. Instead of sending claims over the Access Satellite, they get sent to an FTP area to be downloaded, twice a day. No problems yet. In fact, we don't get those annoying "Header date not greater than .. blah blah blah" messages anymore!

I have been using the internet for my warranty claims for two months now. I like it. It is fast. I has improved since I entered the test program. Our system does not download so it makes no extra effort to use this over access. I am told that it should be avialble to all dealers now. If you can not get on, call the dealerworld help desk and they can get you started. If is great at time when we are backloged because I do not have to be attached to the office to catch up. But I bet no warranty administrators are ever overwhelmed with work. Gm has a better idea. Dealer World is great in all areas. The new VISS is much like our Chrysler one and the additional information is very useful.

Speaking of the new VISS, I must be doing something wrong, because I have yet to figure out how to get recall info on multiple VINs. Any help? Thanks

I haven't even tried Multiple VINs yet.
I keep GMVIS running all day on my PC. Just set your E-Mail program to check e-mail every 8 minutes. Your ISP (Internet Service Provider) checks for activity every 10 minutes. If you set your e-mail program to check every 8 minutes, your PC "pings" the site that often, thus, keeping the connection alive!
When I connect in the morning, I STAY connected all day. I can run a VISS at will, when needed!

As far as entering multiple VIN's on GMVIS, it is not supported at this time for the simple reason of the amount and delivery of information. When you call up a VIN, it gives you a summary page with links to several other areas. (ie: claim history, vehicle build, etc.) I don't think that GMVIS has the capabilities at this time to support multiple VIN searches. I'm sure it is "in the works." This is not the only area GM needs to improve on. But it is all new technology so problems and issues are sure to arise. All in all, GMVIS is a much improved program and is certainly used as a "tool" in our store.
