Just wondering if there is a "right" way to have op codes set up in the ADP system. I inherited a hodge-podge of labor operations from previous managers and have added a bunch myself. It seems like there is always a operation coming up that I don't have a op code for so we just keep on tacking them on. I must admit that we do not use the ALTG in the system.

There is no right or wrong way to do op-codes. If you use ADP's Dispatching or ERO you can attach a Dispatch code to the op-code. I would recommend updating the estimated duration at the op-code level. One thing that can help you is using ADP's Service Pricing System, which in fact will add its own op-codes to your system. Years ago the description of the repair was not saved in the history file, but that has long been corrected. At that time you did not want to delete or modify the description of the op-code.

I do have service pricing here for the last couple of months but have the same problem. It seems that the operation you are looking for does not exist in service pricing. Couple this with parts superceedence causing misquotes and boy do you have troubles! Service pricing looked great on the demo and I am sure I can build operations but I am always looking for easier ways to do things not harder!

Well here is a update since my last posting. I took a on-line "coach" class from ADP on appointment scheduling and had a glimpse at what looked like the solution to all of my problems-one op code with a variation depending on vehicle model or any special I would run. When I asked about it I was told that it was part of the Service Pricing system. Just this morning I received a call from Doug Soskin from ADP Hayes-Ligon who spent almost an hour on the phone with me explaining how I can set up my op codes through Service Pricing to streamline my entire Parts and Service operation (which is why I signed up in the first place). Doug went above and beyond the call of duty to help me out and proved to me once again that it is a lack of education that causes most ADP headaches not the system itself! If anyone out there has not used Dealer Suite or taken some ADP on-line training then they are missing the boat.

The service pricing for adp really is not worth the money or so I thought. I agree with others the most used labor repairs example belt and tensioner is no even listed and if you call Hayes Ligon they will tell you that you can just add what ever time or repairs you want. My answer to that is for the money I should not have to assign any type of repair. Enough on that. I have found that there is one good thing. You can build dealer defined op codes for example trans service or trans flushes and so forth. This works really well for service and parts. It allows the service advisor to have all labor time and money already on ro when you go to pfc and also preassigns parts to the repair order. I have fell in love with feature and have kept service pricing just for this.

ADP is the most versatile for those who want flexibiliy, and in my opinion for service and dispatching there is not a better system, however, it does take an understanding of the software to be able to take advantage of it's benefits. My advice...keep it simple!!! email me if you want to talk more.

Had the same issue with Reynolds & Reynolds... and to make matters worse...you can't delete a labor operation if it has been used in a certain period of time (called an active labor operation!). Got rid of service pricing guide and started using "Alldata" on-line for very little money. Great program and great for your advisors to give ballpark estimates on Repair work if they have internet service at their desk.
